THE HONEST CO. VS. RASCAL & FRIENDS DIAPER REVIEW

Okay, let’s get to it! Diaper review. No need for the longest blog post ever – no one likes that. You are here for the facts! So which is the best diaper? (In MY opinion!)

I have been a mom for a little while now. Sixteen months to be exact and I know a little bit about the diaper game. So with that being said, today I am reviewing The Honest Company Diaper with the Rascal & Friends Diaper!

I will honestly say – the Honest Company doesn’t even compare to Rascal & Friends. The Honest Company is a complete rip-off.

There, yes I said it.

First off – Financially – Here is the breakdown of the cost.

*I will try to match the boxes closely but every brand has its own amount per box. *

Rascal and Friends from Walmart:

Size 1: 108ct for $19.97 (18 cents each)
Size 2: 200ct for $39.97 – (20 cents each)
size 3: 182 ct for $39.97 (22 cents each) If you are a new mom reading this – yes, the amount of diapers gets lower while the prices stay the same…It was a sad and annoying day when I found this out.
size 4: 182 ct for $39.97 (27 cents each)

Honest company from Amazon:

Size 1: 160 ct for $51.98 (32 cents each)
Size 2: 152 ct for $52.98 (34 cents each)
Size 3: 136 for $49.76 (37 cents each)
Size 4: 120 for $50.95 (42 cents each)

Since my daughter is still in size 4, that’s as high as I went.

Okay so now you might be thinking, Honest Co. is a sustainable and gentle brand for my baby, that must make the price way higher? Let’s take a look:

Straight from the Honest website:

“Sustainable, but how? To make the core of the diaper, we harvest wood from sustainably managed pine + spruce trees in Scandinavia, which is then turned into fluff pulp at a Swedish mill using totally chlorine-free processing – aka no dioxins (toxic chemicals) in our waterway. We don’t add latex, fragrance, or parabens. We use a 100% plant-based backsheet, and our new, more efficient design reduces the amount of material used in each diaper. Our diapers are cruelty-free and never tested on animals”

Rascal & Friends FAQ section answers

“The premium materials in Rascal + Friends diapers are sourced from around the world and the same as in all diapers worldwide. They are predominately made of: fluff pulp, super absorbent material (SAP), polypropylene nonwoven fabrics, polyethylene film, together with some fastening and elastic materials. SAP materials are safe, non-toxic, non-mutagenic, non-irritating and used throughout the sanitary industry. All materials undergo a stringent product safety assessment and are manufactured under strict guidelines. No, Rascal + Friends diapers and pants have no latex, fragrance, lotions and use water-based inks. We developed our diapers with babies’ sensitive skin in mind. Soooo basically the same!

Absorption/ Leakage

From my own experience, I have not liked Honest Co. absorption or its leakage – specifically with those poopy diapers, but we’ve had a few pee-throughs as well.

With Rascal & Friends, I don’t need to change my daughter as often as I do with Honest Co.. She can pee a lot in her R&F and still feel dry – plus the diaper holds up well even with all that pee. Whereas the Honest, if she pees just as much as she did in R&F she would pee out of her diaper. Also, while we’ve never had a poop accident in R&F (because it catches the poop REALLY WELL with its multiple leak guards), we have had poop come out of the Honest Company diapers.

Now I will say that before our daughter was a toddler, this might not have mattered because she didn’t poop as big or pee as much. I also could change her more often as a baby! But now that she pees and poops more and in bigger amounts, this is so important. The longer I can keep a diaper on her the better, because what toddler likes to be changed constantly??

Not to mention Honest Company also has a “12-hour leak-guard night diaper” that is more expensive. So if you want 12-hour coverage as a standard, Rascal & Friends wins again.

DIAPER SIZE

After all of that…I feel like Honest Co. has no chance of winning, but let’s compare size. Sadly (and by sadly I mean – seriously Honest Co.) they still didn’t meet Rascal & Friends standards. Not only is it shorter, but the diaper also isn’t as wide, especially the bottom! And that should be important! For reference, these are both size 4. If I were to choose Honest Co. I would have to size up to a 5 for my daughter to get better coverage and absorption… which would then cost more per diaper. That’s another no for me.

AVAILABILITY

The last category is availability. Usually, this isn’t an issue with most diaper companies as there is a wide selection at most stores. With The Honest Company, this is the case. You can find them just about ANYwhere! At Target they even have 15% off coupons! However, with Rascal & Friends, you can only buy them online at Walmart.com. Walmart does offer free shipping, but they still can be hard to come by if you don’t remember to purchase them.

Overall opinion, Honest Company did not impress me in every category when competing with Rascal & Friends, especially the price range. Just a rip-off if you ask me. That’s great they are available, but the price should not be that high.

Really, I don’t have anything great to say for Honest Company diapers…I mean if you want a cute design, sure, go for them. If you are in a rush and need to get a clean brand, sure! But there really isn’t a solid reason to continuously choose a diaper company that is way overpriced and doesn’t have good absorption. I understand it’s a good eco-friendly company, but it’s up against R&F…which is also eco-friendly and way cheaper!
